Siliguri, May 18 -- Two weeks after losing power in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress suffered one of its biggest organisational setbacks in the Darjeeling hills on Monday, as senior leader Lal Bahadur Rai resigned from the party along with its entire Mirik sub-divisional committee.
The mass resignation has virtually erased the organisational structure of the state's former ruling party in the subdivision.
Rai, once a prominent GNLF leader, had joined the TMC in 2017 ahead of the Mirik municipal elections. Under his leadership, the party had achieved a historic breakthrough by winning control of the Mirik municipality - its first civic success in the Darjeeling hills.
