Kolkata, May 12 -- Senior BJP leader and Maniktala MLA Tapas Roy on Tuesday took oath as the Protem Speaker, ahead of the swearing-in of the newly elected West Bengal legislators over the next two days.
Roy, the seniormost MLA in the current state legislature, was administered the oath by Governor R N Ravi at the Lok Bhavan here. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and senior officials were present.
As per rules, the Protem Speaker oversees the swearing-in of the legislators after they are elected.
Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing at the Assembly premises ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected members of the 18th Legislative Assembly.
