Kolkata, June 7 -- A massive cache of illegal firearms and ammunition hidden in local ponds and properties was found during a raid conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police in Manipur and Sarberia Bazaar areas of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district on Saturday, police said.
Commenting on the matter, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari posted on X, noting that a massive quantity of firearms had been stockpiled to foment unrest in the state.
The STF operation targeted local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Robin Das and Gopal Das - both identified as close aides to Sheikh Shahjahan.
Twenty-nine weapons and live bullets were pulled from a pond adjacent to the leaders' homes.
