Siliguri (West Bengal), June 25 -- Tourists and daily commuters faced severe difficulties on Thursday after a massive landslide at Sevoke near Siliguri disrupted road connectivity to the Dooars, Kalimpong and Sikkim.
A large portion of a hillside collapsed onto National Highway 10 early in the morning, blocking traffic on the crucial route. Although restoration work began soon after the incident, authorities had not allowed even light vehicles to pass through the affected stretch till evening.
Long traffic snarls were reported on both sides of the highway, with many drivers unable to use alternative routes. Emergency travellers were forced to use the Gazoldoba route to reach Kalimpong and return to Siliguri.
