Birbhum, April 2 -- Several policemen, including the inspector in charge of Suri Sadar Police Station in West Bengal's Birbhum district, were injured when they tried to disperse two groups of clashing mobs on Thursday.

The dispute started between two groups of villagers over the construction of a road in Kankuria village. The disturbances ultimately led to stone pelting.

Locals said that they had prevented construction work earlier in the controversial land parcel, but the contractor and workers arrived with JCB machines and forcibly tried to work.
