Krishnagar, July 16 -- West Bengal's Kanchrapara Gram Panchayat pradhan Pankaj Singh, accused of extortion, was allegedly assaulted by an angry mob near his Kalyani flat before police arrested him after treatment at JNM Hospital.
According to police, Singh was allegedly attacked after a group dragged him from his flat near Kalyani Lake Park in Nadia, accusing him of wrongdoing. The assault triggered tension in the area, prompting the Kalyani police to rush to the spot and rescue the injured panchayat chief.
Police immediately took Singh to Kalyani JNM Hospital, where he received primary medical treatment. Soon after his discharge, police arrested him in connection with an extortion case.
