Siliguri, Sept. 15 -- Amid the devastation caused by floods in Malda's Bhutni, teachers and students of Manikchak NB High Madrasah have stepped forward to help marooned residents, raising funds among themselves and travelling by boat to distribute dry food and drinking water.
The initiative assumes significance as the madrasah, which caters largely to Muslim students, extended assistance beyond its own community to flood-hit residents of North Chandipur and other affected areas of Bhutni.
The teachers and students said they were inspired by the relief initiative of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, whose assistance was sent through the Malda police administration.
