Siliguri, Aug. 3 -- In one of the biggest crackdowns on an alleged cross-border cough syrup trafficking racket in recent months, police seized over Rs 2.4 crore in cash, around 9,000 bottles of banned cough syrup worth more than Rs 20 lakh, two gold coins and a laptop during overnight raids in West Bengal's Malda district.

Three persons, including the alleged kingpin, were arrested.

The operation, carried out jointly by the South Dinajpur and Malda district police from Sunday evening till Monday dawn, followed a breakthrough in the investigation into a cough syrup smuggling network with links to Bangladesh.
