Kolkata, June 10 -- A major fire broke out at the multi-storeyed office building of the South 24-Parganas Zilla Parishad in West Bengal's Alipore on Wednesday morning, triggering panic in the area and prompting a large-scale firefighting operation.
No casualties had been reported till the filing of this report, while efforts to bring the blaze completely under control continued.
Thick black smoke billowed from the building, engulfing the surrounding locality and raising concerns about the safety of nearby government establishments.
