Siliguri, Sept. 6 -- The threat of a sudden surge in the Teesta river following a landslide near the confluence of the Teesta and Chyakoong rivers has significantly reduced, the Mangan district administration said on Sunday.

A joint inspection team conducted an on-site assessment this afternoon to review the situation following the landslide reported earlier in the day near the area opposite the Theng Tunnel.

The team comprised Joint Director-cum-DPO, DDMA Mangan, Karma D. Bhutia, SDPO Chungthang Chandan Chhetri, and officials of the District Disaster Management Authority and Chungthang Police.
