Kolkata, Sept. 18 -- The Election Commission on Friday finalised separate names and election symbols for the two rival factions of the Trinamool Congress, ahead of the October 6 Assembly by-elections in Nandigram and Rejinagar.
The faction led by Mamata Banerjee will contest as Mamata All India Trinamool Congress, with a football player as its election symbol. The faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee has been allotted the name Democratic Trinamool Congress and the envelope symbol.
The decision followed the Commission's interim order freezing the use of the name All India Trinamool Congress and its reserved "Flowers and Grass" symbol by either faction for the forthcoming by-elections. The poll panel had asked both sides to submit three altern...
