Tarapith, Aug. 17 -- The death toll in the fire that broke out at a hotel in Tarapith in West Bengal's Birbhum district has risen to nine, with four residents of Alipurduar feared to be among the victims.
A devastating fire broke out at the four-storey Bidishini Hotel (Bideshini Lodge) in the temple town of Tarapith, Birbhum district, West Bengal, resulting in at least 8 deaths, leaving several pilgrims injured. The incident took place during the early hours when a massive fire trapped dozens of devotees who had gathered to offer prayers on the final Monday of the holy month of Shravan.
The blaze erupted between 4:30 am and 5:00 am on the ground-floor reception area of the hotel, located right next to the Tarapith Police Station.
