Kolkata, June 4 -- The Bagnan panchayat in Howrah district and Jaigaon panchayat in Alipurduar are going to be converted into municipalities as part of a wider restructuring of local governance in West Bengal, Rural Development Minister Dilip Ghosh said on Thursday.
Speaking about the state capital, Kolkata, Ghosh indicated that the state administration is also examining a proposal to club together panchayat areas around New Town with the planned parts of the smart city to form a new urban local body.
In New Town, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) provides civic services to all three Action Areas.
