Asansol, Nov. 4 -- An on-duty police constable of the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC), identified as Sanjay Jana, died after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to his head in Durgapur on Tuesday night.
Jana, a resident of Midnapore, was posted with the Kanksa Traffic Guard. Preliminary police reports suggest that he allegedly shot himself with his service revolver, firing four consecutive rounds while stationed on the service road of the national highway in Panagarh.
According to police sources, the incident occurred while Jana was deployed outside a local hotel. While his colleagues were seated inside the establishment, he reportedly stepped out of the police vehicle and began walking nearby before gunshots were heard.
