Siliguri, Oct. 4 -- Artificial intelligence and the sound of honeybees are emerging as important tools in Northeast Frontier Railway's efforts to prevent elephant-train collisions, with technology-based alerts and timely interventions helping save 255 elephants across its divisions during the first nine months of 2026.

According to NFR records, timely interventions by railway personnel helped save 106 elephants in Alipurduar Division, 14 in Rangiya, 122 in Lumding and 15 in Tinsukia Division between January and September.
