Burdwan, Oct. 13 -- In a major development in the four-year-old Burdwan child death case allegedly linked to medical negligence, police have arrested the absconding anaesthetist from Bolpur.
According to police sources, Dr Banaj De was arrested Monday night from a house in Bolpur, Birbhum, after evading arrest for weeks. He was produced before a court on Tuesday.
The case dates back to September 2, when four-year-old Aranya Roy from West Midnapore died allegedly following a surgery at a nursing home in Burdwan town. The child's father, Jayanta Roy, lodged a written complaint with Burdwan Police Station and the state Health Department, alleging negligence and treatment by unqualified persons.
