Burdwan, June 24 -- A couple was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly abducting an 18-day-old infant from a family living in an abandoned railway quarter in West Bengal's Burdwan district, police sources said.
Investigators, however, rescued the child unharmed within 24 hours and launched a wider search operation into a suspected child-trafficking network, said the police sources.
Shambhu Debnath has been living with his family in the deserted railway quarter at Dubrajdighi, a locality in Burdwan town, for four years. The Debnath couple has five children, including the 18-day-old boy.
