Chennai, April 11 -- Finally it's official. A total of 4,023 candidates will be contesting the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

With the number of candidates having been finalised, the battlelines were clearly drawn for the high octane elections to elect the 234-member Assembly which would witness a multi-cornered contest.

Following constant updates in its portal over the last two days after the last date for withdrawals ended on April 9, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said a total of 4,023 candidates are contesting the polls after more than 500 candidates have withdrawn their papers.

Of the total record 7,599 papers (6216-men and 1380-women) filed, 2,460 were rejected during scrutiny.
