Pune, April 9 -- Senior leader Sharad Pawar has expressed hope that the upcoming by-election in the Baramati Assembly constituency, necessitated by the untimely demise of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, would be held unopposed in keeping with Maharashtra's long-standing political traditions.

Pawar stated that, following the passing of a prominent and accomplished public representative, it has been a convention in the state for other parties not to field candidates. He urged the Congress party to respect and preserve this political culture.
