Akola, Sept. 7 -- : The demand for inclusion of the Banjara community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category has gained momentum in Maharashtra, with the community announcing a statewide agitation beginning September 15.
Gor Sena National President Sandesh Chavan on Sunday said a chain hunger strike would commence in Akola district from September 15 to press for the demand.
He warned that the agitation would be expanded across Maharashtra and intensified if the state government failed to take a positive decision.
Chavan said the Tahliyani Committee had been constituted earlier to examine the inclusion of the Banjara community in the ST category.
