Dhaka, May 5 -- Bangladesh recorded 17 deaths linked to measles and suspected measles-related complications, the highest number reported in a single day since the outbreak of this highly contagious yet preventable disease began in March, media reports said on Tuesday.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), of the deaths reported by 8 a.m. on Monday, two were confirmed to be related to measles, while the other 15 were classified as suspected cases.

Of the suspected deaths, the highest 10 were recorded in the Dhaka district, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
