Dhaka, Sept. 5 -- Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman is set to assume the presidency of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on September 8, giving Bangladesh the leadership of the UN's main deliberative body for the second time.
The 81st session will formally open on September 8, with the high-level general debate scheduled to begin on September 22, when heads of state and government are due to address the Assembly.
Khalilur Rahman was elected president of the 81st UNGA through a secret ballot at the UN headquarters in New York on June 2 where he defeated Andreas S Kakouris, special envoy to Cyprus's foreign minister, by eight votes. He succeeds current President Annalena Baerbock.
