EXTERNAL TN IDOLSChennai, July 10 -- Three antique stolen idols belonging to the 12th century, totally valued at Rs eight crore, were repatriated backto Tamil Nadu by the authorities in Australia during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
A release from the Idol Wing-CID police said it has been taking persistent efforts to retrieve the stolen idols, antiques and cultural treasures which were smuggled abroad and unearth the criminals involved in the crimes.
The idols are being repatriated to Tamil Nadu through Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) and subsequently handed over to concerned temples. Investigations revealed that the missing antique idols are traced at prominent international institutions and auction houses....
