Chennai, Sept. 18 -- A total of 58 of the 99 nominations filed for the October six Tamil Nadu Assembly by-elections to Madurantakam and Dharapuram seats, which fell vacant following the resignation of Rebel AIADMK MLAs, were accepted, while 41, most of them Independents, were rejected during scrutiny on Thursday.

In its update, office of the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer today said of the total 48 papers filed in Madurantakam (35 men, 13 women) 28 were accepted and 20 rejected.

In Dharapuram a total of 51 candidates (23 men, 28 women) have filed their papers of which 30 were accepted and 21 rejected.
