New Delhi, July 2 -- Assam has stepped up efforts to strengthen its aviation infrastructure, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urging the Centre to expedite approval for the proposed Greenfield Airport at Silchar while reviewing progress on several other airport projects across the state.
During a meeting with union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu in New Delhi on Thursday, the Chief Minister discussed plans to accelerate aviation development and position Assam as a major aviation and logistics hub in the Northeast.
The meeting reviewed the status of six proposed Greenfield airports -- at Silchar, Manas, Umrangso, Majuli, Diphu and Charaideo, along with a proposed heliport at Haflong.
