Aichi-Nagoya, Sept. 24 -- Veteran Indian squash players Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar held their nerve in a fiercely contested second game to defeat compatriots Suraj Chand and Shameena Riaz 2-0 and storm into the mixed doubles quarterfinals at the Asian Games here on Thursday.
The third-seeded Indian pair prevailed 11-7, 11-10 in an all-Indian Round of 16 clash, with the second game providing the decisive test of their composure.
Joshna and Velavan looked in control after taking the opening game 11-7, but Suraj and Shameena mounted a strong fightback in the second. The ninth-seeded pair recovered from 7-9 down to level the game at 9-9, before Joshna and Velavan held their nerve to close out the match 11-10.
