Chandigarh, June 8 -- : A police personnel sustained serious injuries after a firearm allegedly discharged accidentally during a weapon inspection at the armoury branch of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) office in Amritsar on Tuesday, officials said.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred around 11 am when a person visited the armoury branch for the routine verification of a licensed weapon. During the inspection process, a .30 bore pistol reportedly went off, striking Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Narayan Das, who was handling the firearm at the time.

The sudden discharge triggered panic within the office premises, following which the injured officer was immediately rushed to a private hospital. Sources said ...
