Bengaluru, June 13 -- Karnataka Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka on Saturday alleged that efforts to tarnish the reputation of the renowned Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala pilgrimage centre had failed and demanded that the Congress government apologise to the people of the state for allegedly supporting a campaign against the institution.

In a statement, Ashoka claimed that a conspiracy had been hatched to defame Dharmasthala, a major religious centre visited by millions of devotees. He alleged that individuals with left-leaning ideological affiliations, backed by the ruling Congress government, had attempted to malign the institution and hurt the sentiments of devotees.
