Bengaluru, July 22 -- Tension flared in Bengaluru on Wednesday after BJP legislators alleged they were assaulted during a protest outside the party's state headquarters, prompting the BJP to accuse the ruling Congress of orchestrating the attack and demand immediate arrests.

According to the BJP, several of its MLAs were allegedly attacked by a group of persons while they were being escorted by police following a face-off between BJP and Congress workers during rival protests over the NEET issue. The party claimed the legislators were assaulted despite being in police custody and later lodged a complaint with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, seeking action against those responsible.
