Itanagar, June 29 -- Four men stranded on an island in the swollen Sisiri River near Dambuk in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley district were rescued safely on Monday after an intensive multi-agency operation involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local rafting experts, elephant owners, district authorities and the Indian Air Force.
The four individuals - Geram Lego of Remi village, and Abom Tayeng, Maksam Pertin and Mitom Borang of Tapat/Yapgo village - were reportedly trapped on a river island on Sunday after water levels rose suddenly due to incessant monsoon rains. The men had ventured into the river to carry out traditional fishing activities for their livelihood.
