New Delhi, Aug. 14 -- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday interacted with Indian Army sportspersons who delivered a stellar performance at the recently concluded 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning 16 medals, including eight gold, seven silver and one bronze, and described the athletes as a "perfect blend of a soldier and a champion".
The Army contingent's performance accounted for 16 of India's overall 39 medals at the Games, including eight of the country's 13 gold medals. Indian Defence Forces personnel collectively won 18 medals, with the Indian Navy accounting for two. The Army athletes brought laurels to the country across boxing, athletics, para-athletics, judo and weightlifting.
