New Delhi, April 16 -- : As air quality in the national capital deteriorated, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Thursday invoked Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) with immediate effect.

The decision followed a meeting of the GRAP sub-committee to review the air quality scenario in Delhi-NCR.

Citing unfavourable meteorological conditions, the pollution watchdog said Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) rose to 226 and is likely to remain in the "poor" category over the next two days, based on forecasts by IIT Delhi and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in collaboration with IITM.

GRAP Stage I measures have been enforced across Delhi and the NCR region, as per the official order.
