Vijayawada, June 21 -- The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case of a youth who allegedly went missing from police custody and prompted his relatives to file a habeas corpus petition for his production in court.

The decision announced on Sunday follows an appeal by the mother of the youth who called on the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday demanding justice.

Chief Secretary Sai Prasad issued an order setting up the SIT. Law and Order IGP M Ravi Prakash will be the head the SIT, while WG district SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi and ASR district SP Amit Bardar are members. Bapatla district SP L Sudhakar has been named as the investigation officer.
