Vijayawada, July 22 -- Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan has said that due to the severe rain deficit caused by the El Nino effect, many areas across the state are likely to face drinking water shortage and directed the officials to take preventive measures.

He held a meeting with the officials here on Wednesday and reviewed the progress of various projects, mega water grid works and El Nino effect on the state.

Special attention should be paid to areas like Palnadu-Prakash, which are severely water-stressed, he told the officials. He directed that the work of mega water grid projects undertaken in Palnadu-Prakash areas as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission and Amarjeevi Jaladhara scheme, should be completed within the stipulated time.
