Visakhapatnam, Aug. 7 -- Visakhapatnam MP, M. Sribharat, today urged the Centre to implement time-bound measures to effectively control pollution arising from port operations in Visakhapatnam, citing growing concerns over deteriorating air quality in the port city.

During a meeting with union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi, Sribharat submitted a detailed representation seeking stronger environmental safeguards while ensuring sustainable growth of port-led industrial activities.

The MP said Visakhapatnam's unique bowl-shaped topography restricts the dispersion of airborne pollutants, resulting in higher concentrations of particulate matter.
