Vijayawada, Aug. 18 -- Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu has said that financial compensation of Rs 1,000 is being extended to farmers for each of the damaged coconut trees and saplings planted in place of the perished trees.

Participating in the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, the Agriculture Minister told the House that the government had taken steps to provide a permanent solution to the problems faced by the coconut farmers in Konaseema district rather than temporary relief.

He revealed that the government is working to resolve the root causes of the problem by planting new saplings in place of every withered coconut tree and by dredging canals and drains.
