Polavaram, Sept. 2 -- A seven-year-old girl died and 53 others including 46 students fell ill after taking Chloroquine tablets, distributed by the health workers on Tuesday as a precautionary measure to prevent malaria at Gollaguppa village in Polavaram district.

Health officials said on Wednesday that a team distributed the Chloroquine tablets to school and anganwadi students and made them swallow.

Of those affected, 46 were children and seven adults, officials informed. All the children were below 10 years of age.

One of the school girls, Madavi Jamuna (7) went home and suffered from vomiting. The parents took the girl to Primary Health Centre at Lakshmipuram where the doctors declared her dead. All the ill students were taken to the P...
