Vijayawada, Sept. 21 -- The Congress party leaders led by APCC Vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji paid rich tributes to progressive writer Gurajada Apparao on his 164th birth anniversary in the party office here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shivaji said that Gurajada Apparao, through his writings, boldly exposed the social, economic and gender inequalities that existed more than a century ago and brought about significant social awareness through literature.
He recalled Gurajada Apparao's immortal message, "A nation is not the soil but is its people," and the message still remains relevant even today, nearly 85 years after the poet's demise.
