Vijayawada, Sept. 5 -- The Centre of Competence (COC) laboratory which was set up in KG Hospital in Visakhapatnam for the first time in Andhra Pradesh is playing a vital role in detecting inherited genetic disorders including Thalassemia and sickle-cell anemia among tribal people.
The COC is providing services to tribal people living in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Alluri Sitarama Raju district. So far the COC has tested 121 blood samples of which 94 blood related disorders were diagnosed. The tests are conducted free of cost and the doctors advise patients, provide clinical management services free of cost.
