Kadapa, April 5 -- As many as 18 passengers had a providential escape after an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus caught fire at Veeranna Gattupalli village in Kadapa district on Sunday.

Police said that the roof of the bus caught fire after it came into contact with high tension wires. The alert driver stopped the bus asking passengers to get off, The driver and conductor then jumped out just in time as flames engulfed the bus soon thereafter.

The bus going to Kadiri from Vempalle, was completely gutted.

All of them escaped unhurt, police added.
