Kolkata, Aug. 17 -- The West Bengal government on Monday started releasing funds under the Annapurna Yojana, with Rs 4,350 crore being credited to the accounts of 1.45 crore beneficiaries by August 20.
However, 17 lakh applications have been rejected during the initial verification process, primarily because the applicants' Aadhaar numbers could not be linked to their bank accounts.
Health Minister of State Sumana Sarkar and Information and Cultural Affairs Minister of State Purnima Chakraborty, along with Women and Child Development department secretary Moumita Godara, announced the details at a press conference at Nabanna.
The government said 1.62 crore applications had been verified initially.
