Bengaluru, July 13 -- Karnataka's flagship Annabhagya guarantee scheme has run into a major crisis, with the distribution of subsidised rice reportedly disrupted for nearly three months, triggering protests by beneficiaries and raising questions over the state's ability to sustain one of its marquee welfare programmes.
Thousands of ration card holders across the state have allegedly been struggling to receive their monthly food grain entitlement, with beneficiaries complaining of repeated delays, empty stocks at fair price shops and long queues outside ration outlets.
In several places, angry consumers staged protests after being turned away without receiving rice.
