Visakhapatnam, June 1 -- : South Coast Railway (SCoR), India's 18th railway zone, officially commenced operations from Visakhapatnam on Monday, marking a major milestone in the reorganisation of the railway network in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana nearly 12 years after the bifurcation of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.

With the operationalisation of SCoR, Andhra Pradesh now has its own railway zone headquartered in Visakhapatnam, while the existing South Central Railway (SCR) has been restructured and reduced in size.
