Vijayawada, Sept. 13 -- Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Sunday directed health officials to step up measures to prevent contagious diseases, particularly malaria and dengue, following the recent rains in the state.
In a statement, Yadav said 7,895 malaria cases had been reported in Andhra Pradesh as of August 30, compared with 6,172 cases during the corresponding period last year, an increase of 27.9%.
Dengue cases also rose slightly, with 1,475 cases reported as of August 30 against 1,410 cases during the same period last year, marking an increase of 4.6%, he said.
