Chandigarh, Aug. 27 -- The political contest around jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh has taken a sharper turn, with his mother Balwinder Kaur hitting back at Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal and questioning the record of leaders who governed Punjab for decades in the name of Sikh politics.

Responding to Badal's remarks about her son, Kaur said people in Punjab were capable of judging the competing claims made by political parties.

"Those who remained in power for 25 years calling themselves Panthic... what did they do for Punjab?" she said, adding that the public knew the answer.
