Chennai, June 21 -- In a tragic incident, two workers, both women, died and more than 60 others were affected following leakage of highly toxic ammonia gas in a private shrimp processing centre near Periyapalayam in neighbouring Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday afternoon, even as Chief Minister Vijay formed a three-member panel to probe the incident and submit an interim report in24 hrs, and also announced a solaitum of Rs two lakh each to the families of the deceased.
While the Tamil Nadu Government puts the casualty figure at two, multiple reports/unconfirmed reports from the spot said seven women--all hailing from North India-- died in the tragedy.
