Chennai, Sept. 3 -- Amid soaring prices and two days after making an announcement in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Protection, and Price Control P.Venkataramanan launched subsidised sale of onions at Rs 35 a kg in ration shops to ease the burden of the people.
The Minister along with his Cabinet colleague and Cooperation Minister V Gandhiraj launched the initiative at a fair price shop in Alwarpet coming under Venkataramanan's Mylapore assembly segment..
At present onions are being sold at around Rs 55-60 in the open market, pinching the purse of the lower and the middle class.
