Prayagraj, April 30 -- The Allahabad High Court on Thursday issued instructions regarding compensation claims related to the stampede at the Mahakumbh Mela 2025.
The court stated that the jurisdiction to decide on compensation claims filed by victims or their dependents lies not with the Judicial Inquiry Commission, but with the District Administration and the Mela Authority.
The court has ordered that the Mela Adhakari must decide on compensation claims within 30 days.
The division bench of Justices Ajit Kumar and Satya Vir Singh issued this order while hearing a petition filed by Sanjay Kumar Sharma.
The petition sought compensation for the death of a relative in the stampede that occurred on Mauni Amavasya, January 29, 2025.
