Prayagraj, June 25 -- The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a PIL seeking a new route for the Tazia procession in Sambhal.

The division bench of Justice JJ Munir and Justice Arun Kumar issued the order here on Thursday.

Court said that holding religious processions along a specific route is not a fundamental right. The court clarified that the right to religious freedom is subject to public peace and law and order.

Petitioners sought permission for a new route after the old traditional route was closed following electrification of the railway line.

Other communities were opposing the proposed new main route, which could have led to tensions.
