Prayagraj, July 3 -- The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) investigation into madrasas in Uttar Pradesh.

The High Court stated that merely initiating an investigation is not punitive action.

High Court double bench comprising Justice Neeraj Tiwari and Vivek Saran delivered the verdict on Friday.

During the hearing, the Uttar Pradesh government informed the court that investigations into approximately 4,000 institutions in the state are underway based on intelligence inputs.

The Madrasa Management Committee and the Teachers' Association, Madrasas Arabia, filed the petition.
